Lake Forest Park Water District and King County reach agreement on water supply program

King County and the Lake Forest Park Water District have settled a dispute about a water supply replacement program to be carried out under the terms of a 2003 Brightwater Treatment System mitigation agreement.

Under the terms of the settlement, King County will construct a new permanent transmission line between Seattle Public Utilities reservoir in Lake Forest Park and the Water District’s current distribution system. The county will also pay the district $2 million to develop and connect a new deep well water source by 2012.

King County’s obligation under the 2003 agreement to monitor groundwater levels and quality during and after construction of the Brightwater Project remains unchanged with this new settlement.

Both the district and King County believe that settling the dispute under these terms is in the interest of their respective ratepayers and citizens.
