PROJECTS UNDERWAY IN 2009
- Watermain replacement 187th PL
- Watermain installations near District Wellfield
- Brightwater – SPU Intertie on 195th
- Brightwater backup well(s)
- Refurbish high zone standpipe at 18000 block of 49th Place N.E.
Over the next several weeks some customers may notice some pressure fluctuation. This is caused by our variable speed drive which operates while the high zone standpipe is out of service. We appreciate your patience with us as we carry out these projects.
BRIGHTWATER TUNNEL
The District is working diligently to ensure that King County honors the terms of agreements which require the County to construct an intertie and provide soils data while boring near the District aquifer. Provisions of a 2003 agreement require the County to double line a portion of the tunnel if it is found to enter the District aquifer.
We appreciate the help our customers have offered for this project and we need your continued support to facilitate the timely completion of the backup supply.
CONSERVATION TIPS
- Plant in the fall when conditions are cooler and rainfall is more plentiful.
- Winterize outdoor spigots and irrigation systems when temperatures dip below freezing to prevent pipes from leaking or bursting.
- Turn off the water while brushing your teeth and save 25 gallons a month.
- Don’t use running water to thaw food. Defrost food in the refrigerator for water efficiency and food safety.
- Reduce the amount of lawn in your yard by planting shrubs and ground covers that require less watering.
IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT YOUR WATER SYSTEM
Coliform Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) Exceeded: Non-Acute MCL
The Lake Forest Park Water District, ID 40950K, in King County routinely monitors for the presence of total coliform bacteria and in October 2009 this type of bacteria was detected. Although this incident was not an emergency, as our customer, you have a right to know what happened and what we did or are doing to correct the situation.
Coliforms are bacteria which are naturally present in the environment and are used as an indicator that other, potentially harmful, bacteria may be present. Coliforms were found in more samples than allowed and this was a warning of potential problems. The samples that showed the presence of coliform were further tested to see if other bacteria of greater concern, such as fecal coliform or E.coli were present.
None of these bacteria were found.
You do not need to boil your water. People with severely compromised immune systems, infants, and some elderly may at be an increased risk and may want to contact their health care provider for additional guidance.
At this time: The District has taken steps to isolate the High Zone Standpipe in case it might have been a cause of the bad samples. All additional samples since taking the high zone standpipe offline have been found to be free of coliform bacteria. The Standpipe had been scheduled for upgrades this fall and will remain off-line until upgrades are completed.
