BACKGROUND & HISTORY

In 1948 Lake Forest Park Water Distict (Then King County Water District #83) was purchased after six years of negotiations with the Lake Forest Park Water Company, at a price $50,000.  It is located wholly within the city of Lake Forest Park population, 14,600 in 1997.  Lake Forest Park is a city located on the north end of Lake Washington in northern King County Washington.  The area is made up of 1.5 square miles of rolling terrain marked by high ridges and steep valleys.  Ground elevations range from a high of 420 feet to 20 feet above sea level near Lake Washington.  The District serves 854 residential connections, one elementary school and a shopping center.

The area was originally platted as a residential park, and due to the covenants, the community has remained residential with little commercial and no industrial development.

The table below summarizes major physical and administrative developments the District has carried out over the last eight decades.  Over this period the District has opted to remain independent from purchased water and has continued to develop its own artesian and deep wells located in its Wellhead Protection Area (WHPA).  To improve reliability of supply, the District has increased storage, while at the same time, attempting to increase emergency interconnections with adjacent systems.
